Smart Construction S.A., a leading construction company based in Chania, Crete, successfully completed the large-scale energy upgrade of the building facilities of the Technical University of Crete (TUC), located in Kounoupidiana, Chania. Awarded in September 2022 and completed in November 2024, this major public works project with a contract value of €1,776,329.02 ranks among Smart Con’s most significant energy renovation undertakings to date.
Given the scale and complexity of the university campus, the project involved a wide range of energy efficiency interventions across multiple buildings and facilities. Works included comprehensive thermal insulation of building envelopes, installation of high-performance windows and doors, modernization of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, and the upgrade of lighting infrastructure to energy-efficient LED solutions. Together, these measures substantially improved the campus’s energy performance, reduced operational costs for the university, and aligned the facilities with current Greek and European green building standards.
