Smart Construction S.A., a trusted construction company based in Chania, Crete, successfully completed the reconstruction of the access road at the Souda Bay War Cemetery in Vlites, Chania. Awarded in March 2016 and completed in April 2016, this project was delivered swiftly and with the particular sensitivity that work at such a historically and commemoratively significant site demands.
The Souda Bay War Cemetery is one of the most important Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites in Greece, serving as the final resting place for Allied servicemen who fell during the Battle of Crete in World War II. It attracts visitors, veterans’ families, and dignitaries from across the world, making safe and dignified access to the site a matter of both practical and symbolic importance. The reconstruction works included a full upgrade of the road surface, improvements to the drainage system, and enhancements to overall accessibility and safety — ensuring that visitors can reach this memorial site comfortably and respectfully year-round.
